The oldest Roman construction still preserved outside Italy, it borders present-day Tarragona's Old Quarter and is over a 1,000 metres in length. Don’t miss Minerva tower, the most typically Roman of all.

This is the highest part of the city and also the oldest. Up until the middle ages, the entire city lived here. Nowadays you can wander around here and admire the ancient houses that are still here from Roman times. Whilst there, take a pit stop at La Romana, a highly rated tapas bar offering a genuine, local experience at great prices.

The pedestrian boulevard Rambla Nova brings you international fashion, local handicrafts, jewellers, and traditional shops. Busy, vibrant and tree lined, it also makes a great spot for some serious people watching!

The city was largely unaware of its myriad treasures until mid-19th century, when major excavation work began. The uncovered items include a rich assortment of clothing, sculptures, ceramics, coins and household items spanning thousands of years, all of which you can see today in the National Archaeological Museum.

If you are visiting in the winter, you simply must try this unique, local snack. It is made of large green onions which are roasted over wood fires and then served with olive oil, garlic and nuts.
