The town’s main promenade, La Croisette, is a row of gorgeous boutiques, fine restaurants and some of the most luxurious holiday homes in the town (and there is plenty of completion!). Just east of La Croisette, and you reach the port area where the film festival is hosted. This area is well connected to the rest of the city and the ideal location from where to explore the city.

Cannes is located on the French Riviera in south France. It is a town of 80,000 people that explodes in number in summer and especially during its famous film festival. The heart of the city is the Pointe Croisette. To the west of the port is the Old Town. Beautifully located on a hill, it affords outstanding views of Cannes. The cobble-stoned streets are lined with old-world villas from the 1600s and myriad boutique cafes and restaurants. The city’s most historic attractions are found here, such as the Notre-Dame Gothic church, which dates all the way back to the 1300s.

Cannes is not only the number one luxury shopping destination in France, but one of the best places in the world for shopaholics with a bottomless credit card. On La Croisette you can walk for an hour and pass nothing but luxury – eye-wateringly expensive boutiques, with all the high-end brand names represented, including Dior, Chanel, Gucci and Bulgari. Your credit card isn’t made of gold? Then head to Rue d'Antibes and Rue Meynadier, where you will find a mixture of upmarket high street shops, trendy fashion brands, perfumeries and boutiques with prices you can afford!

Cannes is best known for its sandy beaches and international festivals, but the city’s cultural heritage is no less impressive. The chic and intimate Centre d’Art La Malmaison, housed in the former Grand Hotel, hosts temporary exhibitions from world-famous artists such as Picasso and Chagall. The Musée de la Castre, located within a medieval castle high above the city, provides the most spectacular vistas in all of Cannes, and is home to exhibits that include medieval artefacts, Asian instruments and 19th-century paintings. At Villa Domergue you can see the works of Jean-Gabriel Domergue, a prominent 20th century French painter, known primarily for his impressive portraits of Parisian women.

La Croisette is a great starting point of your visit to Cannes. This 2-km-long boulevard is a fabulous people-watching spot, especially during Cannes Film Festival, and is packed from early morning until late at night. So, take a seat at one of the many cafes and bars that line the street and enjoy the sights!

The Old Port of Cannes is a fascinating mix of traditional charm and immense wealth, and the best place to watch the world’s most expensive yachts sail into town. Come at sunrise or sunset, when the magical colours of the portside buildings seem to come alive.

In mid-May the world’s most famous film festival transforms Cannes and brings the great and the good to the city. For two whole weeks, a special buzz rings around the town, and the chance of spotting celebrities is very high!

Cannes has been developing an extensive programme of giant murals for nearly 20 years. The result is a multitude of film-related paintings that adorn the walls of buildings along streets and avenues at various locations across the town. Hunt for the effigies of Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Batman, and many more!

The lung’s of Cannes, La Croix des Gardes is right in the centre of the town. Step through its gates into 200 acres of forest interlaced with trails and hikes and countless beautiful picnic spots. A wonderful change of pace from all the glitz!
