Located at the northern end of Puerto del Carmen's main tourist beach, the blue flag beach of Matagorda is declared a Special Area of Conservation and is one of the largest beaches in Puerto del Carmen. With few waves, the beach is perfect for swimming and is close to the international airport, so you can see planes flying overhead. From Matagorda, you can follow the “Avenida de las Playas” which stretches all the way to the other end of Puerto del Carmen in the south where Playa de Los Pocillos, another of the largest beaches, is located. You will pass several beaches such as Playa Chica, a cove protected by underwater volcanic rock formations, and the award-winning Playa Grande.
