Holiday homes for all budgets: Chic or cheap?

Without a doubt the western end of Costa Adeje deserves the upmarket label. Prime example, Del Duque, has a large offer in luxury homes with an exclusive architecture and chic restaurants. All complemented by miles of walkway, perfect for a stroll at the sun set. On the other hand, if you are looking for a budget friendly area with mid-range rentals with plenty of shops and restaurants, look no further. A couple of hundred yards further south from Del Duque, Fañabe is the best destination. Also Torviscas, Puerto Colón or San Eugenio have stylish areas, nice restaurants and reasonable prices for a good fun in the sun.

Canarian culture and traditions

]Costa Adeje has much more to offer than beach and sunshine. Running deep traditions and gastronomy will surprise even the most well travelled tourist. Try tasting the “papas arrugas”, “Gofio” or “Ropa Vieja” from Michelin Star menus in Sucas or La Cúpula to quaint beachfront restaurants. In February or March, plan your stay in the capital, Santa Cruz. This is a good home-base to enjoy Tenerife’s carnivals, one of its most well known traditions with music, shiny colours, stunning dresses and beautiful parades.

The Romans called the island ‘Nivaria’ (Snow Island) because Mount Teide was snow-capped. But, the Palmeros called the island ‘Tenerife’ or ‘white mount’: ‘tiner’ means ‘mount’ and ‘ifer’, white.

Top 5 travel tips in Costa Adeje

1. Teide National park

Named a Site Heritage by UNESCO, in this park you can choose from different trails that will take you to different sides of Mount Teide but if it’s the summit you want to reach, then follow trail No.10, Telesforo Bravo. The National Park guards will ask you for the permit, which you will need to book at least 3 months in advance as only 200 permits are allocated per day and demand is very high. If you do not want to request the permit, spend the night in the Altavista Refuge, that gives you access to trail No.10 if you leave before 9am. And if you do not wish to break a sweat, take the cable car to see the stunning views. Temperatures plummet at the top, so don’t forget your coat.

2. A splashing fun day out with the family

Boasting the world’s largest man made waves, the world’s longest and highest lazy river, Naga race Water slide, pools and a spectacular dolphin show is what Aqualand or Siam Water Park can offer for a family fun day out. And if you want to see parrots and many other animals, head to Loro Parque, the island’s most popular day out.

3. Sea Eco tour

Embark on an eco tour led by a scientist. You will feel like a marine biologist while listening to the underwater communication of dolphin and whales. Take a dip into the sea or do some snorkelling is another option for those who love swimming.

4. ‘Starlight Tourist Destination’

Because of low light pollution the Canary Islands are perfect for stargazing. This is why the Teide National Park was awarded “Starlight tourist destination”. Take a drive out of town and look upwards anywhere you are and if you want a full experience, take an astronomy tour, where you will use long-range telescopes to admire the universe.

5. Playa de las Américas.

Tenerife’s most famous resort, popular for its nightlife but also a perfect place for a lazy day in worship of the sun at the 6 different beaches in and around the town.
