Any food lover appreciates the tasty, colourful and varied tapas, the little Spanish appetizers. Get a portion of any hot or cold recipe at the tapas alley in the Old Town. Calle Santo Domingo is a tiny alley lined with tapas bars where to sample some calamares fritos, some Denia red prawns or a great selection of Manchego cheese or jabugo ham. Wash it all down with a good red Rioja or a refreshing Estrella Damm. Some tapa bars offer “pintxos” another form of tapa, spiked with a toothpick on a piece of bread. Do some tapas hopping along Santo Domingo street and indulge yourself. Have a “hoppy” meal!

Green areas can be enjoyed around the city but fun is waiting for you at the best parks. Adrenaline junkies will have the time of their lives at Terra Mítica, one of Spain’s biggest theme parks featuring blistering rides at breakneck speeds. Families have different options at water parks. To cool off from the hot sunny days in the big wave pool, a relaxing time in the jacuzzi and hilarious fun rides to spend a great day out. In Mundomar though, besides the water attractions you will enjoy the animals in it and you can even swim with dolphins. This is a modern Sealife centre similar to SeaWorld in Florida.

Levante and Poniente are the two large beaches you will enjoy in Benidorm. Nevertheless, if you prefer a charming little beach, Mal Pas Cove is your place! In front of the cove there is “L'Illa de Benidorm” (Benidorm Island) with a submerged platform known as “La Llosa”, a rich marine reserve that will delight any scuba diver. The island is also a nature reserve with a vast flora and fauna with some legends explaining the formation and appearance of the triangle shaped islet. Feeling curious? To get away from all the city’s buzz, Serra Gelada is a park where to recharge your batteries. Get in touch with nature and let the dramatic scenery mesmerise you. Take in the panoramic views of Altea Bay from the top of the hill and walk around the craggy cliff-tops. Extend your walk to the lighthouse, worth a visit. Get some good walking gear and plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.

If you need to have a day away from the sand, Guadalest is a picturesque village perched on rocky mountains. This is a very popular tourist attraction just a 20 minute drive from Benidorm. Back in the day it was only accessible by donkeys although now, the winding road takes you up to this quaint place through pine forests and almond trees, making it a really pleasant journey. Go to the big reservoir, either walking the 50 minute walk or taking a short boat ride. Visit the curious museum of salt and pepper shakers and browse around the many artisanal shops.

Spain becomes alive every summer with summer festivals across the country. Benidorm is no exception! Go where music goes live. This 3-day rock and indie pop music festival full of fun, sun and good vibes is held annually at the end of July at Ciudad Deportiva Guillermo Amor.
