Brussels, the self-titled ‘Capital of Europe’, welcomes you with its rich history and marvellous architecture. There are a wide range of holiday homes all around the city. If you prefer to be in the centre of the action, then choose from one of the many options in the historic centre near the Grand Place. Alternatively, opt for the beautiful area on the edge of the centre around the magnificent Brussels Park, home of the Royal Theatre. Although Brussels is an old city with many historic buildings, the majority of homes are located in modern high-spec buildings. Ixelles, located south of central Brussels, is the most affluent in the capital and boasts cobbled small streets and garden squares that are full of charm and history. For urban cool, working-class Marolles is becoming increasingly popular with the bohemian set.

To the east of the centre is Parc de Bruxelles, which makes for a lovely slice of nature and a breath of fresh air in an otherwise bustling metropolis. You can take a peaceful walk here, go for a jog, or rent a bike and cycle along one of the many paths which are lined with fountains and statues. On the north side of the park there is Brussels Theatre, built in 1782, which stages high-budget performances to this day.

Brussels makes for a great city for an amorous getaway. From strolling the elegant city streets around the Grand Place to indulging yourselves in the internationally renowned best-in-the-world chocolate, or visiting the city’s museums dedicated to lovers: the Heart Museum, and the Museum of Erotics and Mythology, there is no escaping the romance of this city. You can even learn to make chocolate truffles at one of the famous chocolatiers, a lovely treat to top off your romantic break.

As lovers of this fine drink knows, Belgium produces some of the world’s best beer. There are over 150 breweries in Belgium, many of which are in Brussels and which offer tours and tastings (with Cantillon Brewery being a local’s favourite). The choice of beers in regular pubs in Belgium is also impressive. Delirium Cafe is rated as the number one destination, with no less than 2,000 beers to choose from!

An unheralded way to explore the city and its surroundings is by boat. Discover Brussels and its developments in a completely different way – just hop on a canal cruise and enjoy a great view of the numerous new architectural projects, green sites and new museums.

This is a fascinating structure that was built for the World’s Fair of 1958. It takes its design from an iron crystal, which is magnified 165 billion times. Take a surrealistic walk through tubes and spheres and enjoy a stunning panorama over the city.

This former department store built at the end of the 19th century boasts a stunning facade and a beautiful museum, where you can see over 2,000 musical instruments and listen to some of them in action. There is highly-rate a cafe on the roof, which offers panoramic views over the city.

Embark on a treasure hunt among the antiquities and other items at the Jeu de Balle Flea Market. This huge outdoor market in Marolles has everything from vintage artwork to retro bags to quirky furniture and other curiosities.

Le Botanique is an urban park in Brussels’ northern quarter, and an oasis of peace in a busy area of town. It boasts an impressive range of plants and flowers on display, such as its star-shaped rose garden. Check out the local schedule for the park’s various performing arts events.
